Kyle S. first noticed changes in his legs through the appearance of enlarged varicose veins.
The veins had become more prominent, but they were not just a visual concern. Kyle also experienced discomfort, end-of-day fatigue, and a restless feeling in his legs, making the changes harder to brush off.
Wanting to understand what was behind both the visible veins and the symptoms that came with them, Kyle sought care at United Vein & Vascular Centers in Gilbert for an evaluation.
The Visible Veins Were Becoming More Noticeable
Kyle described the varicose veins in his legs as enlarged and uncomfortable.
That visible change was happening alongside other symptoms. By the end of the day, he would notice more fatigue in his legs, and the overall discomfort could leave him feeling restless.
Varicose veins are enlarged veins that can become raised or bulging beneath the skin. For some people, they may be mostly an appearance concern. For others, visible veins can develop alongside symptoms such as aching, heaviness, swelling, throbbing, or leg fatigue.
For Kyle, both sides of the issue mattered. He could see the veins becoming more prominent, while also feeling the discomfort associated with them.
Why Visible Varicose Veins Can Be More Than Cosmetic
Visible veins are often one of the first changes people notice in their legs.
Because they can be seen at the surface, it is easy to think of them only as a cosmetic issue. But when the veins become enlarged or begin appearing with discomfort, heaviness, swelling, fatigue, or other symptoms, circulation may also be worth considering.
Varicose veins can develop when the valves inside the veins do not move blood efficiently back toward the heart. That can allow pressure to build within the affected veins and make them more noticeable at the surface.
A vein screening can help determine whether visible veins may be associated with an underlying vein condition and whether additional evaluation is appropriate.
For Kyle, the combination of enlarged veins and physical symptoms led him to take the next step.

Kyle’s Gilbert Treatment Plan Included Three Vein Procedures
After his evaluation at the Gilbert clinic, Kyle underwent radiofrequency ablation (RFA), VenaSeal™, and Varithena®.
Each treatment works in a different way to close affected veins. Radiofrequency ablation uses thermal energy, VenaSeal™uses a medical adhesive, and Varithena® uses an injectable microfoam. Once treated veins are closed, blood can naturally reroute through healthier veins nearby.
The specific treatment or combination of treatments recommended depends on factors such as the veins involved, symptoms, imaging findings, medical history, and provider evaluation.
As Kyle moved through treatment, he began noticing changes in both the appearance of his veins and the way his legs felt.
Kyle Noticed a Change in Both the Look and Feel of His Legs
After treatment, Kyle described several improvements.
“My legs feel lighter, I don’t experience any pain anymore, and the cosmetic portion of it is better.”
The enlarged veins had originally been one of the most obvious changes in his legs. After treatment, Kyle felt there had been improvement in that cosmetic concern while also noticing less discomfort overall.
The Difference Carried into Marathon Training
Kyle was already active and training for a marathon, so the changes in his legs mattered beyond appearance.
Before treatment, discomfort and end-of-day fatigue were part of what he had been dealing with. Afterward, he said he was able to exercise more freely and that marathon training had become easier.
That improvement gave Kyle more freedom to stay focused on his training rather than on how his legs felt.
For someone working toward a goal as demanding as a marathon, even recurring discomfort or fatigue can become distracting. Kyle’s results allowed him to continue pursuing that goal with fewer leg symptoms getting in the way.
Why Changes in Visible Veins Are Worth Mentioning
Visible varicose veins can look different from one person to another.
Some may appear raised or bulging, while others become more noticeable gradually over time. The appearance itself can be a reason to seek care, especially when the veins continue to enlarge or become more prominent.
It is also important to mention any symptoms happening alongside those changes.
Kyle was not only seeing enlarged varicose veins. He was also experiencing discomfort, fatigue, and restlessness, which gave more context to what was happening in his legs.
Sharing both the visible and physical changes during an evaluation can help a provider better understand the overall pattern.
The Gilbert Team Made Kyle Feel Welcome
Kyle described his experience with the doctor and staff as very positive.
He said the team was “very welcoming,” “very friendly,” and never made him feel judged.
That part of the experience stood out enough that he said he would recommend the clinic to others.
When asked what he would tell someone who might still be unsure about seeking care, Kyle kept his advice simple.
“Just go for it, get a consultation,” he said, adding that younger patients especially should not feel there is a stigma around getting their veins checked.
Overall, Kyle came away feeling confident in the care he received and the results he experienced
Kyle Sees and Feels the Difference
Kyle originally sought care after noticing enlarged varicose veins that were also causing discomfort. He was dealing with end-of-day fatigue and restlessness as well, making the visible changes only one part of the problem.
After treatment with RFA, VenaSeal™, and Varithena®, Kyle reported that his legs felt lighter, his pain was gone, and the appearance of his veins had improved.
He was also able to exercise more freely while continuing to train for a marathon.
Kyle’s experience shows why visible varicose veins do not always have to be considered separately from how the legs feel. When enlarged veins appear alongside discomfort, heaviness, swelling, fatigue, or other symptoms, looking at the complete picture can help determine what may be contributing.
If visible varicose veins are becoming more noticeable or are appearing alongside other leg symptoms, schedule a vein screening with United Vein & Vascular Centers. A screening can help determine whether vein disease may be contributing and whether additional evaluation may be appropriate.
