Dr. James Whyburn is a board-certified vascular and interventional radiologist with more than a decade of experience delivering advanced, minimally invasive, image-guided treatments. He specializes in outpatient vascular and interventional procedures that offer effective alternatives to traditional surgery, helping patients recover faster while achieving meaningful, long-lasting results.

Dr. Whyburn earned his medical degree from UT Southwestern Medical School and completed an internal medicine internship at Tulane University Medical Center. He went on to complete his diagnostic radiology residency at Lenox Hill Hospital/Northwell Health, followed by a fellowship in Interventional Radiology at Texas A&M Health Science Center and Baylor Scott & White Health. This training provided a strong foundation in both diagnostic imaging and complex procedural care.

Prior to joining United Vein & Vascular Centers, Dr. Whyburn practiced as an interventional radiologist with Baylor Scott & White Health, where he served as Medical Director for multiple sites in the Austin, Round Rock, and Marble Falls regions. In this role, he led clinical quality initiatives, established procedural standards, and supported patient-centered care delivery. He also served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Texas A&M Health Science Center, contributing to physician education and mentorship.

Dr. Whyburn is known for his analytical approach, technical precision, and clear communication style. With a background in engineering prior to entering medicine, he brings a systems-based mindset to patient care—focused on accuracy, efficiency, and thoughtful problem-solving. He believes patients benefit most when they understand their condition and treatment options, and he prioritizes transparency and collaboration throughout the care journey.
