Dr. James Estes is a board-certified vascular surgeon with more than 30 years of experience treating complex arterial and venous disease. He is dedicated to helping patients improve their circulation, preserve limb function, and enhance their quality of life through advanced surgical and minimally invasive endovascular treatments tailored to each patient’s needs.

Dr. Estes knew from an early age that he wanted to become a surgeon, driven by a fascination with how the human body functions and a desire to solve complex medical problems. He earned his Bachelor of Arts and Doctor of Medicine from the University of Rochester before completing his surgical residency at New England Deaconess Hospital. He went on to complete a vascular surgery fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital, where he received advanced training in vascular and endovascular surgery.

Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Estes has served in numerous clinical and leadership roles, including Director of Vascular Surgery at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital and Medical Director of the Noninvasive Vascular Laboratory at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, both Massachusetts General Hospital affiliates. Earlier in his career, he served as Medical Director of the Vascular Laboratory and attending vascular surgeon at Tufts Medical Center, where he also helped educate and mentor the next generation of vascular surgeons. His clinical expertise spans complex arterial and venous disease, carotid artery disease, peripheral artery disease, aneurysmal disease, diabetic limb preservation, and advanced vascular imaging.

Dr. Estes believes that exceptional patient care begins with establishing trust. He takes the time to listen carefully to each patient’s concerns, understand their goals, and develop individualized treatment plans that balance safety, effectiveness, and long-term outcomes. Over the course of his career, he has cared for thousands of patients and is known for combining technical expertise with compassionate, patient-centered care.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Estes has made significant contributions to vascular surgery through research, education, and national presentations. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and textbook chapters, served as an instructor for Massachusetts General Hospital vascular surgery courses, and has been recognized repeatedly as a “Top Doctor” by his peers in both Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
