For Sheila W., symptoms in her legs had become increasingly difficult to manage. She developed a small bleeding skin ulcer on the inside of her ankle and was also experiencing large, bulging varicose veins throughout both her upper and lower leg. At times, the veins would become filled and irritated, and one ankle vein had even bled unexpectedly.

Over time, the symptoms became more than uncomfortable, they created uncertainty and concern about daily life. Managing the wound and worrying about additional bleeding made it harder to feel comfortable and confident.

Identifying the Root Cause

Sheila came to United Vein & Vascular Centers in Duluth seeking relief and answers. Her care team evaluated the underlying vein issues contributing to both the visible veins and the skin changes she was experiencing.

She underwent treatment including radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy, with the goal of improving circulation and addressing the underlying vein disease contributing to her symptoms.

Life After Treatment

Following treatment, Sheila noticed meaningful improvements in both comfort and healing. The ulcer on her leg healed within a matter of weeks, eliminating the ongoing concern and care it had required.

She shared that she was thrilled not to have to deal with wound care and bandaging anymore.

Beyond the healing process, she also noticed her legs felt lighter overall. One of the biggest changes was the peace of mind that came with no longer worrying that her leg would suddenly begin bleeding again.

“I no longer have to fear that if the scab falls off, my leg will bleed everywhere,” she explained.

The improvements allowed her to move through daily life with greater confidence and comfort.

A Care Experience Built on Trust

Throughout her treatment journey, Sheila felt genuinely cared for by the team. She described the staff as kind, empathetic, and attentive to her condition.

She shared that she consistently felt treated in a professional, caring, and welcoming environment and appreciated how well the team worked together throughout her experience.

Looking back, Sheila strongly encourages others not to delay care.

“Get treatment, this place is the best,” she shared. “Dr. Greer is great.”

At United Vein & Vascular Centers, stories like Sheila’s reflect how treating underlying vein disease can support healing, improve comfort, and help patients return to everyday life with greater confidence and peace of mind.
