Understanding Deep Vein Thrombosis
Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is the technical term for a blood clot stuck in a deep vein within the body. It can be especially dangerous because if the blood clot travels to the lungs, it could result in a potentially fatal pulmonary embolism. Be aware of the warning signs of deep vein thrombosis to prevent serious complications.

Key Warning Signs of DVT
The following are common signs to look out for:
- Discoloration – Look for discoloration in the skin near the affected area, which may redden or become darker.
- Throbbing in your leg – Throbbing pain is a glaring indicator of DVT. Seek medical attention if you experience this.
- Warm skin – The skin around the affected vein might feel unusually warm to the touch.
What Does Deep Vein Thrombosis Feel Like?
DVT can feel like sudden or new throbbing pain, cramping, shortness of breath, swelling, warmth, and/or vein soreness. This condition can be life threatening, and you should seek immediate care if you are experiencing these symptoms
What to do if you think you might have DVT?
If you suspect DVT, visit an urgent care for immediate evaluation and consider getting a referral for follow-up treatment with a vein and vascular specialist.
